The controversial Crossroads Gun Show has returned again to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, but was met with advocates from NeverAgainCA, a grassroots organization that advocates for gun policy reform.  This public display came not long after the passing of Assembly Bill 893, a bill authored by Assemblyman Todd Gloria, that would prohibit the sale of guns or ammunition at the Del Mar Fairgrounds starting in 2021.

While the bill cleared the Legislature this month, Gov. Gavin Newsom has until Oct. 13 to sign or veto it. Escondido Councilwoman Olga Diaz has urged the Governor to sign the bill before the Oct. 13 deadline saying:

“After years of gun violence and mass shootings, the legislature responded appropriately by passing AB 893, signaling that we no longer accept same day gun sales on publicly-owned property. I congratulate the legislature, and especially the San Diego legislators such as Todd Gloria, Tasha Boerner-Horvath, & Lorena Gonzalez who helped make this bill a reality.

Let’s make sure that this bill not only passes, but passes with a signature from the Governor proudly showing that the people of California resolutely reject these types of gun shows from being held on our public property. As an elected official and a candidate for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, I have made my position clear that I am for gun safety and I ask the Governor to stand with us by signing the bill immediately.”
